Protomelas sp. Steveni Taiwan Reef males start out with a blue face and a yellow and red body with black checkerboard lines. When they mature, around 4 inches, males turn blue with a yellow area on the front portion of their body displaying a red anal fin. Females are silver with several vertical black lines with a darker color face. C.A.R.E.S. Program Fish, Vulnerable facing a high risk of extinction in the wild in the medium term future.
These fish will primary be available in 3-3.75" or larger males, mostly through my special order list. They are slow to show full color.
Taiwan Reef works best in breeder groups of one male with six or more females. Single males sometimes work with other single milder peacocks and Lake Malawi Haplochromines. They can, however, be a little delicate and are prone to get knocked off at night by other more aggressive tank mates.
