They're back! These are the red color ruby Red/ German Red now brought back through German breeding as Ruben Red. They have not been available commercially for a very long time. Most males look like my German Red. (Orange)
Dominant Reuben reds will turn red later on in their life. Sub-dominant males will remain orange. There is a slight difference between the Reuben red and german red strains. The german reds have more orange throughout their bodies, while the Reuben red has bluer faces with a more compacted orange coloration found predominately in the midsection of the body. Dominant Reuben red males will get a really intense red coloration in the midsection-back of the eye region.
