Cyrtocara moorii Blue Dolphin Males are blue and they develop a hump on their head. Females are lighter in color and may also develop a hump on the head. They are a shy and peaceful fish that needs similar tank mates. My wholesale source has a premium strain of this fish.
C.A.R.E.S. Program Fish, Vulnerable, Facing a high Risk of Extinction in the Wild. This fish is extremely hard to sex. Males are the best guess by venting especially in 3" or smaller sizes.
Best kept in single male tanks with milder peacocks and milder Lake Malawi Haplochromines. (See Compatibility-not compatible with some similar color or more aggressive types of haps.)
Best mix of sex for breeding is one male with five or six females.
Base Price is a 3" Male
This fish needs room to swim. It is best kept in 90-gallon or larger or better yet 120-Gallon four foot wide tanks.
These fish are primarily available through my special order list. Occasionally a few larger males may appear in stock.
