• Labidochromis caeruleus Lions Cove (Yellow Lab)

Males are yellow with black on their dorsal and lower fins. Females are yellow with white on the anal fin. Occasional females may show some black on the anal fin as well.  These fish are one of the brightest colored fish from Lake Malawi and they make a great starter fish for the African Cichlid fish keeper. My yellow labs are top quality with a nice color. Single Males will mix with Peacocks and Haps.

Have you tried Smart Start Complete yet? It helps to keep your aquarium water cycle system woking and keep fish healthy. CAS uses it in our tanks. Our 12 oz. bottles take up the same space as one 3.5" or smaller fish in our 12 x 12 x 10 and larger boxes. This means you can ship a bottle with your fish order with no extra shipping charge in most cases. see https://www.cichlidsarespecial.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=343 for more information.

Base Price is for a 2.5" male. This fish is grown out from fry which helps to keep down the price.

My strain of Yellow Labs has a deep yellow color.

These fish are grown out from in-store spawns.

Peaceful to mildly aggressive mbuna that mixes well with many other African Cichlids

Best kept in mixed-sex groups, single males sometimes may work in single male tanks with milder peacocks and milder Lake Malawi Haplochromines.  It is hard to beat the color of an all-male African Cichlid Tank.

The best mix of sex for breeding is one male with five or six females.

Never mix two mbuna of a similar color

See Compatibility Chart for More Information

Please note: No sex is guaranteed on sex uncertain fish. Watch for groups with guaranteed males and females for certain sexed fish in a group. Broods are about 50/50.

Recommended Foods: Xtreme Cichlid PeeWee, Cobalt Blue (Cobalt Aquatics)  Spirulina Pellets or Flakes Food with Spirulina help this fish display their best color.
