Males have a greenish body with red on their forehead and the upper front portion of their body. Females lack the red top. These fish are shy. Single males sometimes are slow to show full color and may not show full color until around 4" or more These fish are more similar to Peacock Cichlids than Haplochromis fish in many ways.

Peaceful Cichlid Fish: Mix best with more peaceful Aulonocara Types, Haplochromis, and peaceful Lake Victorians as well.

Best kept in single male tanks with milder peacocks and milder Lake Malawi Haplochromines. 

Best mix of sex for breeding is one male with five or six females.

Part Color males may only have egg spots on the anal fin and red on the dorsal fin. Some may show a little more color. They should color up over time.
