LethrinopsSp. Intermedius (Otopharynx tetrastigma) males have a greenish body with a blue face. They have red mixed into the blue on their dorsal fin and tail. The anal fin is red with cream white spots and lines. Males are very attractive and peaceful. In my option, they can be even more attractive than the very popular Lethrinops Red Cap. They mix best with more peaceful Lake Malawi Peacocks, Halochromis, and Lake Victorians. Females are silver. Two males are not likely to get along in the same tank.
Otopharynx tetrastigma has been sold under the trade name of Intermedius for many years. Otopharynx tetrastigma the same fish as intermedius. It has just been renamed. See: http://www.african-cichlid.com/Tetrastigma.htm
The Tramitichromis name was also used for this fish at one time.
Part color males can sometimes look similar to part color Protomelas Super Red Empress. It is not wise to mix males of these two fish when they are too similar in color. When they get to full color, they normally do better together.
This fish will occasionally be available through my special orders program or a few males may be in stock.
Base Price is a 3" Part Color Male
Best kept in single male tanks with milder peacocks and milder Lake Malawi Haplochromines.
Best mix of sex for breeding is one male with five or six females.
