Lake Victoria Livestock Fish from this lake are at risk in the wild. Some are endangered or may be extinct in the wild. Lake Victoria has a major polution problem. In addtion, Nile Perch have been intorduced to the Lake as a food source. Nile Perch tend to attach and eat the smaller Cichlids from this lake. Political problems in the area make wild collection of this fish difficult, if not impossible. The aquarium owner is the last line of defense for these beautiful Cichlid fish. If you have fry from these type fish and are unable to tend them, please contact us or a local aquairium club. Please do your best to preserve these beautiful fish.

Note: Lake Victoria Cichlids tend to be less aggressive than Lake Malawi and Lake Tanganyika cichlids. They tend to mix well with Lower Aggressive and Mildly Aggressive Cichlids from Lake Malawi and smaller Neolamprochromis type fish from Lake Tanganyika. Most do not do well with more aggressive tank mates. As a general rule of thumb, Peaceful Victoria Cichlids should only be mixed with Peaceful Cichlids from the other two Lakes. Mildly Agressive Victoria Cichlids should only be mixed with Peaceful or Mildly Aggressive fish from the from the other two Lakes. Aggressive Victoria Cichlids can be mixed with Mildly Aggressive Cichlids from the other two Lakes and may get along with Peaceful Cichlids from the other two lakes as well. These cichlids can also be mixed with African Catfish. See our comptatibilty chart for more information.
